Ann, it was so much fun to meet you as well! I'm a total children's lit junkie and it's amazing to hear about your grandma's book club--you should most definitely use that as inspiration to pen a children's book. We need more daring authors putting out good content, especially former educators who are right in there working with kids every day! Thanks so much for your comment--it absolutely made my day, as did our little random happenstance chat. Drop by whenever, it'd be a pleasure to keep in touch.

So fun to meet you today on the shuttle. I liked this post! I had no idea you were into Children's Literature as well. Yet another thing we have in common. It holds a special place in my heart being a former educator. My grandma started a Children's Book Club when she was a young mother and they met weekly during her entire life. She passed away but her book club still lives on. I think it is 75 years old or something close to that! I have always wanted to author some children's books but haven't taken the plunge yet. You have your hand in many things. Admirable. Keep living the dreams!

YES I'd love to talk to you more about that conference, too! I'm thinking of doing some sort of grad student blogger thingy next month...maybe we can all do a little blurb then, yeah? hehe. We'll see how the timing works out though. YAY for conferencing and going out of our comfort zones though. Your conference sounded awesome too!!!

Oh Ala, your conference sounds wonderful!! So amazing that you not only got to meet so many people in your field but some notable colleagues that you can keep in your network as you progress as a grad student. I was so nervous to attend my first conference a few months ago and was so happy I did because it was a positive experience as well. OK these muffins look amazing!!!! So sunny and bursting with flavor. Must try :)

The conference sounds all kinds of awesome, as do those muffins. Just one thing, the recipe card ingredient list doesn't actually list any raspberries. How much did you out into those beauties?

Haha! I study wars, specifically civil wars. So my subfield has two types of people: the kind that want to save the world but are ultimately jaded, and the kind that really just want to remain relevant so they secretly hope that the issue doesn't go away. Sad but true...

You would have LOVED it, Nancy--I actually met up with a few folks from Vancouver who had been at the UBC conference, so there were reps from your neck of the woods. You totally deserve that level of community and camaraderie from your work and your life! I hope Vancouver's at least been behaving and giving you the summer dose you need!
