2015 in Review!

I hope you’re all being drowned in a deluge of 2015 Recap posts these days, because I’m about to add to the pitiless fervor by giving you…..more recaps! Hooray!

2015 was a very special year here at Wallflour Girl. As you know, I try to spend ample time updating everyone here on my day-to-day happenings–but sometimes some (very exciting!) things fall through the cracks of daily life. So without further ado, I bring you a recap of 7 of my biggest, unmentioned accomplishments in 2015. I hope you enjoy reading about them!

Apple dumplings. Have you tried them? LOVE.

If you’re down for a classic treat that will be a repeat offender at your annual holiday gathering, this is the one. My cousin makes at least two pans every year and it’s always one of the most clamored-over desserts at the table. In addition to being insanely easy to throw together at a moment’s notice, these delicious morsels are the perfect blend of cinnamon, spice, apple & everything nice!

Guys, hi!

I’m finally back in California, where the weather has dipped into the high 50s at nighttime and the wonderful lack of humidity limits my showers to one a day. I’m exhilarated, exhausted, and trying my darndest not to fall asleep at my desk as I type these words…

But there’s so much news to share that there’s really no good way to ease into it, so I’ll just say it:

Um, guys–I just won the 2015 World Recipe Championship.

Crazy, right???

Let me back up. As most of you know, I was away all of last … Read more

Before I begin, I just want to say that I’m not at all sorry for sharing this dessert with you. Yes, it’s a crazy dessert–yes, it’s so insanely good that I nearly picked through half of the pan before I managed to pry my paws off of these layered bars long enough to package them and ship them off. But will I say sorry?

Certainly not!

Have a ever seen a food blogger get HANGRY?

Snickers 1--092615

You’d figure that, for people who spend the majority of their days around food–making it, tasting it, styling it, photographing it–hanger isn’t a problem. Let me make this clear: HANGER IS REAL. YES. EVEN FOR FOOD BLOGGERS.

“But how is this possible when you spend all of your time around food?” you ask. Excellent question. Before I launch into my self-righteous explanation, however, I want to make sure we’re all on … Read more

One of the strangest things about being on the quarter system is that although the rest of the world has signed this tacit contract that says yes, the end of August is the perfect time for everyone to be back at school and we should all probably cooperate to coordinate this educational effort, over here we just do jazz hands or something until one day we look at the calendar again and summer is officially over and we’re all like, OK, … Read more

Every once in a while, you meet someone special who changes you–for better or for worse, but without a doubt: for good.

One of the really cool things about being a blogger is getting to press the Pause button from time to time and write one of those meaningful life reflection posts that have nothing to do with sharing new recipes, posting BBQ photos, or looking gorgeous in the dappled forest sunlight. These posts help me slow down and do some of that major appreciation work that really needs to be done more often around here.

As you’ve probably guessed, today’s appreciation post … Read more
